Valley Learning Clay Target Team
In its second year, the Valley Learning Community is proud to continue to support the Homeschool Clay Target Team.
This program is designed not only to enrich our students' educational experience but also to foster a deeper sense of community, responsibility, and an appreciation for the outdoors among homeschool families. By integrating the principles of safety, teamwork, leadership, and environmental stewardship, our Clay Target Team will provide a unique platform for personal development and community engagement.
The Homeschool Clay Target Team is a co-educational sports program that invites students from grades 6-12 to learn and compete in the sport of clay target shooting. This program emphasizes safe firearm handling, sportsmanship, and the disciplined skill of clay target shooting within a supportive team environment. Practices and competitions will take place at local, state-approved ranges under the guidance of certified instructors who are committed to teaching not only the sport but also the importance of conservation and ethical outdoor practices.
We believe by educating our students and the broader community about the responsible use and historical significance of firearms, we aim to foster a well-informed populace that appreciates the freedoms granted by the Second Amendment. Our program will emphasize the importance of this constitutional right within the context of responsible citizenship, aiming to prepare homeschoolers to be advocates for their rights and responsibilities as Americans.
The Homeschool Clay Target Team embodies the Valley Learning Community's mission to provide enriching, community-minded educational opportunities that prepare our homeschooled students for active, informed citizenship. This program will not only offer a unique extracurricular activity but also serve as a platform for community engagement, environmental stewardship, and the promotion of Second Amendment rights, reflecting our commitment to holistic education and the cultivation of responsible, well-rounded individuals.
The Valley Learning Community Homeschool Clay Target Team represents an innovative approach to extracurricular engagement, offering numerous benefits to our students and the broader homeschool community. Through this program, we aim to foster a deeper sense of community, responsibility, and advocacy, aligning with our mission to empower students to contribute positively to society.

My shooting career started in 1984. I have been shooting since, I have almost 250,000 register targets, and with practices and league I have about 300,000 targets. I have shot in 6 different states. I have won over 200 trophies and 5 in the 2025 shooting season. I am teaching the Central Mountain Team. To which I have 1 teenager that has got a grant for shooting scholarship to a school in Oklahoma. We have 7 teenagers in the top 17 in our conference. I have been helping Central Mountain for the past 5 years. I enjoy helping the kids shoot.

I started shooting trap when I was a teenager with my grandpa in Florida. We would go deep into the woods to shoot We always used hand thrown birds, and initially, I had more fun throwing the birds than shooting them. I shot some trap later in high school and early college, I really didn’t get back into it till my Chase was old enough to shoot I’m definitely the least experienced coach on the team, but I’m having fun.
